Dahlia uses a pour and flow technique, in which she combines acrylic, gloss and water in varying consistencies to create abstract organic forms on canvas and wood.
Some paintings are done with watercolor and sea salt.
Dahlia collects scrap metal with interesting shapes from machine shops, vacant lots, sidewalks and more, transforming them into collages and scenes such as cityscapes and heart waves!
She also collects and uses vintage hardware in collages and scenes.
All metal is mounted on acrylic painted backdrops or plaques, made from wood.
Dahlia makes three types of paper collages. 1. Post card - typically vintage. 2. Magazine / newsletter for vision boards and fun. 3. Art paper involving pre-made or handmade sheets .
Dahlia makes beaded, enameled and tin necklaces, earrings and charms.
She often uses new and recycled beads from previously worn jewelry for their unique forms. She also uses semi-precious stones and natural beads such as wood, horn or bone to create products specifically for healing and protection.
Enameling involves fusing powdered glass to copper via a torch which generates bright, shiny colors!
Tin jewelry involves selecting tin containers that have interesting patters and designs on them and then using a stencil to cut out and polish one of a kind vignettes.
Dahlias drawing style often has borders and is composed in postcard style vignettes resembling folk art and vintage designs.
She uses colored pencil and pen on paper to create her work.
Dahlia is primarily a nature photographer. Native to the West Coast, her photographs include the Southwest Desert, California, New York and beyond.
She also photographs vignette displays for holidays such as Thanksgiving and Christmas.
